Soft Palate Lacerated, Soreness, Tasted Blood, Tonsils Area Affected. Is It Due To A Hard Meal?

Last night I ordered half a dozen raw oysters on the half shell at a local restaurant. At some point while eating the oysters the soft palate of my mouth was lacerated somehow. I noticed a soreness in the area and the taste of blood. My expectorate was red and continued to bleed over an hour.

The affected area in my mouth is at the rear and top of my mouth just up and back toward where my tonsils and adenoids used to be. Very strange. Been eating oysters for most of my life and never experienced this. Yesterday was my 54th birthday. My wife called the situation to our waiters attention. He had manager visit our table and she was very sympathetic to the situation and very professional in her response. She indicated it was possible something from the shell caused the issue but it was not clear to any of us how this could have happened. I did eat a couple oysters on a cracker and my wife thought perhaps the cracker could have caused a scrape however it was pretty deep and bled for a over an hour.

Any suggestions or reasons for medical concern from what this account? We were out celebrating my 54th B-Day and as I say -- I've enjoyed oysters all of my life with no prior issues like this. I haven't experienced any sores or bleeding in or from the mouth prior to this.
