Sore Lymph Nodes In Neck, Back Of The Throat With Enlarged Right Tonsil, Cough With Phlegm, Fever. Reasons ?
Hello, currently I have very sore lymph nodes in my neck , red back of the throat with enlarged right tonsil-one small white spot on it. A persistent cough, feels like there is lots of phlegm in the back of my throat. 2days ago I felt very unwell with chills/temperature, muscle aches and generally feeling tired, now the temperature has disappeared I don t feel overly unwell. What do you think this could be? Is it worth seeing my GP?
It sounds like a viral illness particularly either the common cold or the flu virus. In the flu , however, the symptoms are usually more severe with significant joint and muscle pain, lethargy, headache, high fever, malaise.
Treatment would involve rest, fluids and the use of medication to relieve any symptoms. For example paracetamol can be used for any discomfort you are experiencing, a cough suppressant and mucolytic can be used to help with cough. These are available over the counter at your local pharmacy.
You can consider treating yourself, if the symptoms intensify then you can see your doctor. It can take 7 to 10 days to recover from this viral illnesses and in some cases the cough can persist for 6 weeks.
I hope this helps
