Sore, Swollen Eyes With Loss Of Vision. Was Treated For Conjunctivitis. What Could Be This?

Hi Doctor, Iam writing this on behlf of my Dad. He is 63 and suddenly he was suffering from red eyes. Doctor said that this is conjunctiitis. Also, Viral one. Doctor gave him eye drops Mox something and even after 15-16 daya it did not go. there was extreme pain and swelling.finally doc gave sterieod to him and redness is less. But the bad part is that he is losing his vision. Earlier we thougt this is due to the infection. But, now since redness is getting low vision is becoming day by day. He went to doctor to get advise and after putting so mnay lenses she checked and he could not read anything. Finally she placed a lens to check the Retina and she said this is fine. We are very scared that why is he losing vision? Can iot be corrected? What is the best course of action for us? Eagerly waiting for your reply.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Redness of eyes can occur due to many causes.
Infection is the most common cause. Infection can affect the conjunctiva or cornea.
However, infections may cause temporary loss of vision but progressive loss of vision is not seen.
Inflammation of the uveal tract or uveitis causes redness as well as loss of vision.
Since, the retina is within normal limits, the uveal tract needs to be examined.
Uveal tract consists of iris, ciliary body and choriod.
Uveitis is an immune mediated disorder so steroids are commonly used for its management.
However, clinical examination needs to be done before starting any treatment.

Thanks and take care
