Sore, Tender, Inflamed Nose Tip, Headaches. Due To Cold Temperatures?

Hello. The tip of my nose is extremely sore and tender. It appears it is becoming inflamed. This has lasted approximately 4 days and it seems to be getting worse. I live in XXXX and we have experienced frigid temperatures recently. Could that have something to do with it? I also have headaches off and on but no fever . I fear a serious infection that I can t really see. Please help!

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello and welcome to HCM,

I have understood your problem and I assume from your symptoms that you have vestibulitis or swelling of the nose which can be due to infection and/ or due to a variety of causes such as temperature change and allergy to name a few.

You need to immediately start an antibiotic like the amoxycillin-clavulanate 625 twice daily along with a pain killer like acetaminophen and also an antihistamine like levocetrizine once daily. Your doctor will know about these.

Also do steam inhalation and hot fomentation
Your infection and pain should subside in a week. If that does not happen then you may consider injectable antibiotic and painkiller for better pain relief.

If that does not help then you must consult an ENT as soon as possible
Meanwhile please do not meddle with your nose and keep it clean
Finally do not worry as infections of the nose is very common and treatable condition with very good recovery

take care and get well soon
