Sore Throat, Cold, Very Low Body Temperature. Causes For Symptoms?

My 8 year old son woke up with a sore throat today which has gotten progressively worse throughout the day. He has been complaining of being cold so I took his temperature orally and got 94.1. I tried again and got 94.3. I tried his armpit and got 94.6. To be sure the thermometer was working I took my own temp and got 98.5, which is slightly high as my norm is 97.4. Should I be concerned about this very low temp? And what could be causing it?

hi there, sore throat can be caused due to viral infection or bacterial infection..Usually bacterial infecton will come along with systemic symptoms like fever, malaise and yellow or greenish productive sputum. Viral infection causes lots of malaise, lethargy and body pains with a feverish feeling tho' not necessarily with raised temperature. Your son may be suffering from viral infection and so he is having all the symptoms without actually having fever. Do not worry, give him warm saline gargles, anti-inflammatory syrup and antihistaminics if there is runny nose and congestion. viral infections are self limiting and subside on its own in5-7 days.If he does develop fever you could give him paracitamol and if required consult your GP. Take care.
