Sore Throat, Cough, Congestion, Pain In Ears On Swallowing. Prescribed Claritin, Ibuprofen. Cure?

Hello I went to see my family doctor yesterday for a bad sore throat, cough, and congestion. My hubby has been sick with the flu . She prescribed cough medicine and said to take Claritin D and ibuprofen . Now I am unable to sleep due to my bad sore throat and there is pain in my ears when I swallow. The throat pain and ear pain when swallowing is intense. Not sure what to do now.

Hi thanks for your question.
Most probably you are having pharyngitis and tonsilitis along with infection of upper respiratory tract.
The ear pain is refered pain from pharynx.Claritin D is decongestant containing loratidine and psedoephedrine and ibuprofen is analgesic.lack of sleep could be due to side effect of pseudoephedrine
You need both these medicine but along with these you also need antibiotic like levofloxacin for 3 to 4 days.
Hopefully you will be free of symptoms in a week time.
