Sore Throat, Ear Pain, Sore Tender Gland And Pain In Joints. What Is This?

I have a sore throat on right side and and now have an ear ache and sore tender gland down the same side. Also on the same side on the back of my head my occipital is so tender and sore. No fever but ache in joints. I am out of town for the holiday. I am 67 and pre diabetic. I have been having drainage but not stopped up.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Sore throat is normally related to viral illness thought bacterial infection can occur.

A bacterial infection is more likely if there is a high fever (greater than 38), pus on the tonsils, cervical lymph nodes.

A viral infection would also be associated with joint or muscle aches pains.

You can consider the use of paracetamol to help with the pain. There are also gargles or other solutions available that can help with the sore throat examples are chlorseptic, dispirin, betadine gargle.

An antihistamine and decongestant combination may help with the drainage.

It can take up to 2 weeks for a viral illness to resolve completely.

If there is no improvement or worsening then you should consider visiting a doctor in your present area.

I hope this helps
