Sore Throat, Weird Taste In Mouth, Unable To Swallow. What Could It Be ?

I have a really sore throat that started today. I had a weird taste in my mouth this morning and right now my sore throat is keeping me awake. All I really want to do is cry from the pain. I can t touch my chin to my chest because it hurts inside my throat and it hurts like you wouldn t believe t swallow . What could it be? Should I stay home from school tomorrow? (I don t have a technically have a fever but my temp is higher than my normal. Normal is 97.3 it s at 98.4)

Dear Concerned.,

Thanks for writing to us.

The Normal average temperature of human body is 98.6 deg F .When it increases by 1.5 Degrees it is considered to be fever.

In all probability you are developing Acute bacterial Pharyngo tonsillitis ie., infected and inflamed throat/pharynx and Tonsils(a pair of lymphatic glands at the side of throat inlet ).The gram positive streptococcal infection usually causes this infection.Other bacteria and viruses may also contribute to this infection.

Pls take these measures to reduce your suffering,

A)Warm Salt water Gargling/Anti sceptic laced warm water(Eg-Betadine)

B)Refrain from Refrigerated water/cold Aerated drinks/cold to touch food.Even tinned and stored food is avoided and freshly prepared food is better as stored food acts as a medium for bacterial multiplication.

C)Bed Rest during infected period.

D) Consult a locally available doctor(ENT ) Sugeon for a Decongestant/Antibiotic/Analgesic-Antipyretic-Anti Inflammatory/Proteolytic Enzymes/Throat Lozenges Etc.
