Soreness In Roof Of Mouth. Using Dentures. Could It Be Due To Mouthwash?

moving and unstable dentures cause discomfort along with irritation of the soft oral mucosa . your denture could be having sharp points too which are hurting your mucosa.
so go to a dentist and get the dentures examined along with your mouth.
you must understand that the bone under the denture is slowly and slowly resorbing that is being lost and so the dentures become loose.
so it could be time that you get your dentures relined or get a new pair of dentures.

Ill fitting dentures usually lead to soreness in the roof of the mouth i.e. palatal area. If the non stress bearing areas are subjected to stress it leads to this condition . Sometimes over extensions also lead to loosening of the dentures while eating or talking chances of boneloss are very much less as it takes atleast an year time for the changes to occur unless untill you are diabetic patient.soo it has to be checked by your dentist. Use mucopain ointment on the affected area and luke warm salt water rinses will help you get relief from it. Hope this helps you. take care.

As your dentures are ill fitting and not in harmony with the oral tissue, it is obvious to get soreness. ill fitting dentures may have sharp edges or borders that impinge on the oral mucosa leading to tissue irritation and inflammation. It is common in the places where the dentures rests like the hard and soft palate and the sulcus areas. inflammed tissue is sensitive and makes eating difficult.

I suggest you to consult a dentist and get the selective grinding of the denture done in harmony with the oral tissues . Till then discontinue placing denture , apply Dentogel, an oral antiseptic anesthetic ointment on the inflammed areas which helps in tissue healing. Mouth rinsing with chlorhexidine gives soothing effect.

Pain in roof of mouth can be there because of wearing ill fitting dentures or can be there because of some infection in the roof of mouth. Nutritional deficiencies, dry mouth and some systemic factors can also lead to pain in roof of mouth. Without clinical examination, it is difficult to give definite diagnosis. If the fit of the dentures is not correct, then denture needs to be replaced or corrected. If there is some bacterial or fungal infection present, then treatment is required for it. You can visit your dentist for evaluation. By the time, you visit your dentist, you can do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day to reduce swelling. Application of orajel over sore spots may also provide some pain relief.
