Stage 3 Dysplasia, Fears Cervical Cancer, Recommend Full Hysterectomy. Will There Be Side Effect ?

I am 28 years old and my obgyn just told me that I have stage 3 dysplasia which is the stage right before cervical cancer and that she highly recommends I have a full hysterectomy. My only issue is a hormone replacement for me because I have breast cancer that runs in my mom's side of the family and the side affects of a hysterectomy at such a young age. Can you please help me with this?

Hello ma'am.

Yours is indeed a complicated case. As you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, your hormone levels will most certainly have to be closely monitored. I also hope you have sucessfully completed your family.

A hysterectomy at such an early age will cause a few complications, like early aging, drop in libido, etc. Complications which would have been acceptable at a later age, but would be a little difficult to accept at such a young and tender age.

I would recommend going ahead with the hysterectomy, but close and regular monitoring of your hormone levels. A balance is very important.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
