Started Diane 35 Mid Way Through The Cycle. Is It Safe To Have Unprotected Sex?
hi, i took diane 35 (21 pill pack) in may and finished the pack. by 2nd week of june, i had my menstruation . i forgot to buy a new pack so i did not continue taking it again until last week. i decided to take another pack by 2nd week of july but my menstruation still did not start. what is suppose to happen after finishing this pack? is it safe for me to have unprotected sex after taking 11 pills for this second pack? or do i need to take morning after pill after unprotected sex on the 11th day of taking the diane 35 pill? remember i skipped the second month taking the pill and i started a new pack before having my menstruation. i am now on day 6 of my second pack. please respond asap. thanks! :)
Hi Carmela,
Welcome to HCM!
You have started the OCP midway in the cycle, you should not have unprotected sexual intercourse during this cycle.
Best time to start the OCP is the first day of your menses. This improves the hormonal imbalance by resembling the natural rhythm of hormone secretions and also decreases side effects of OCP.
For the remaining period please use condoms to avoid unwanted pregnancy and it's sequelae.
Take Care!
Hi,
Thanks for using the HCM. I am happy to address your questions, the Diane 35 pack contains 21 hormonal tablets plus 7 non-hormonal tablets. The first course of Diane-35 is started on the first day of the cycle (the first day of the menstrual bleeding is counted as day 1 of the cycle). The first tablet should be taken from the starter section of the calendar pack by selecting the appropriate tablet for that day of the week. An additional, non-hormonal method of contraception (with the exception of the rhythm and temperature methods) should be employed during the first 14 days of the first treated cycle. If you forget to take TWO or more pills, or start your new pack two or more days late, you won't be protected against pregnancy. You should take the last pill you missed as soon as possible, forget the other missed ones and then continue to take your pills, one every day, as normal. You should either not have sex, or use an extra barrier method of contraception, eg condoms, for the next seven days. If you had unprotected sex in the seven days before you missed pills, you may need emergency contraception (the morning after pill). If you are confused about any of this, you can get individual advice for your circumstances from your physician. Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help. Thanks
