Stinging And Watering In Eye, Ear Pain, Swelling In Gland, Blocked Nostrils, Mild Cough. Safe To Fly?
My right eye stings and is watering, my right ear aches, my right gland is swollen and my right nostril is blocked and keeps running, I also have a slight cough , left side is all fine... I guess it s a common cold , but why is the right side the only side experiencing symptoms? Also, I m Cabin Crew, would you say it was safe to fly in this condition, I ve been told stories about an ex employee who went deaf in one ear from flying with a cold.
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
It is possible that the unilateral symptoms could be due to an allergic rhinitis on the right side. This can cause one-sided nasal congestion, running nose, eye watering, etc. Since there is a passage which connects the nose to the ear, this could also result in a ear ache on that side.
If your symptoms are distressing and are likely to affect your functioning, then it would be better to take rest till the symptoms come down. You can use an anti-allergy medication and saline nasal drops for symptomatic relief.
Wish you all the best.
