Stinging Throat, Itchy Eyes And Throat, Nausea, Diarrhea. History Of Brushing Teeth Where There Was Little Bleach On Toothbrush. Suggest
Hi, I have a question...
I was brushing my teeth and not paying attention, had forgotten that there was a tiny bit of bleach on the toothbrush and so my throat started to sting. But it's been 24 hrs and I feel itchy eyes, itchy throat, nausea, diahrria. I don't want it to persist forever. Will it go away soon and how long will it take? THANK YOU!
Hi! Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM!
Bleach is a common toxic household agent that can actually destroy mucosal membranes if ingested or inhaled.
It is possible that with the tiny amount of bleach that got into your system, you may have slightly injured your oral and esopageal mucosa. We cannot also rule out the possibility that you are having a reaction, possibly allergic, to the tiny amount of bleach that you were exposed to. I would advise that you seek medical attention immediately so that the appropriate examinations and management can be initiated to prevent the further injury to your mucosal membranes and or the worsening of your allergic reaction.
Next time, please make sure that all toxic substances are properly and securely kept and that personal effects such as toothbrushes and others are kept separate from them.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Take care!
