Stopped Alcohol After Twenty Years Of Heavy Usage. Will Damage Reverse Itself?
I gave up alcohol 6 months ago after 20 years of heavy use, i always exercised daily to a good level, and continue to do so now, i feel good, have lost fat and maintained good muscle definition , my question is will the damage reverse itself? My diet is good, always has been. Thank you. ps I am male 52 years old , now 13 stone , was 14 stone 7 at cessation of alcohol.
Long term regular intake of alcohol has adverse effects on almost all parts of the body, but maximum on the liver. To an extent, the damage to the liver is reversible on stopping alcohol. But in later stages, it becomes irreversible. I would advise you to get your blood tested for liver function status. Also get an ultrasound examination of your liver to assess the damage to the liver. If there is significant damage, ask your doctor to prescribe some medications for the same. Continue with a good balanced diet and regular exercise, as you have been doing. I am sure that you will do well.
Best wishes.
