Stressed Over Work. Having Lightheadedness, Crushing In Chest, Tiredness. Matter Of Concern?

Hi I m Ian. Ihave, over the past few months, started a new very demanding job. Working 11 hrs a day with very little time for meal breaks etc. I am stressed and for the last 4-5 days have been a bit light headed, have had a strange sort of crushing feeling in my chest and feel tired all the time. I am 54 yrs old and am reasonably fit for my age and apart from cholesterol medication , take no other regular meds. should I be concerned

Though stress and anxiety can manifest with a variety of physical symptoms, it is always important to rule out any underying serious medical problems. Considering your age and the risk factor of high cholesterol, I would suggest that it is better to get yourself checked by a doctor. It is advisable to have an ECG in order to rule out any cardiac problems.

If the medical evaluation is normal, then you can try relaxation methods like deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, yoga, distraction techniques, etc. to combat the stress. It is important to have regular and balanced diet and have around 6 - 8 hours of sleep. Avoid alcohol, smoking or any other unecessary medication and try to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
