Suffer Sharp Pains In Chest. Heart And Blood Pressure Normal. Suggested Possible Cartilage Blockage? What To Do?

Daughter a care worker has suffered several instances recently of sharp pains in the chest area and struggling for breath. She has been seen by the hospital and GP the heart and blood pressure OK. However the GP has suggested a possible cartilage blockage? and prescribed Ibuprofen for 7-10 days. Being a care worker lifting etc, will this hamper her recovery? She is aged 37, slightly built.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are different causes for chest pain.
It can be related to any of the structures in the chest from the skin inwards.

The fact that she was given ibuprofen implies that the pain was thought to be inflammatory in origin.

If she is involved in heavy lifting , it is possible that it could be musculoskeletal in origin. This means that it may involve the muscles or be related to the bones in the chest.

One common cause of skeletal pain is costochondrititis which is inflammation of the areas where the ribs connect with the sternum. This pain can be severe and worse on movement.

She may want to rest for a few days to help herself heal.

I hope this helps

Dear Sir/ madam
Thanks for writing to HCM.
There is no medical term like cartilage blockage. It is either arterial blockage or cartilage damage.
Since she has been given ibuprofen and her heart is said to be OK, probably it is cartilage related problem. It is a part of attachment made of fibrous tissue joining bone to bone. She may have to take rest and avoid putting excessive strain on the painful area. Application of moist heat will help.
Sincerely
