Suffering From Hashimoto Leading To Throat Infection

Hello! Im a singer, started a musician school 7month ago so I m still in the process of developing my voice! But I recently diagnosed with Hashimoto, hypothyroid disease and I ve got a really hard time singing sometimes, since one year back I ve got a bad throat infection that will com and go anytime. I don t know if that s related to my thyroid problems because I weren t aware of my disease until 2 month ago! I keep losing my voice every now and then, and it s really hoarse all the time... Is it possible for my disease to affect my voice? Can I ever be a good singer? Like I said, I m still developing my voice but the truth is that my voice were stronger 2years ago then now!? I m a 22years old student from Sweden.

Hello,
I understand your concern and I'm sorry you are experiencing this. The recurrent throat infections may not be related to Hashimoto's but on the other hand, it has been proven that recurrent infections are causally related to Hashimoto's.
Hashimoto's disease is known to cause voice changes, such as hoarseness, unrelated to a cold or throat infection. You did not mention whether you are taking the treatment, which would be oral thyroid hormone. Taking the treatment reguarly will keep the disease under control and as a result its effects on your voice will diminish and or disappear.

I wish you good health and success in your musical career.
