Hello , I have been having tachycardia for a month now. It happens when I stand up and I start to walk. I get really bad hot flashes and I feel very fatigued after doing so little . Before I got sick I was a cross country runner and I feel like this has taken over my life. I just had an MRI of my heart and it came to be normal. My thyroid is a little low but not sufficiently low to treat it . I start a new quarter in my university this Monday and it consists of dancing all day from 830-430 I m afraid I ll have a heart attack or worse. Do u think it would be best to refrain for physical activity ?
Dear, first step is to do an electrocardiogram to evaluate the heart rythm and the possibility of extra beats or arrythmias. Then , you should have a 24 hr holter monitor to identify any irregularities in that period. You need an echocardiogram to evaluate heart function and any problems in the heart valves and structure. After this evaluation, the doctor should have a better idea of your medical problem. I would recommend you to have a cardiac evaluation before doing heavy exercise and a lot of dancing hours. The hot flashes and fatigue can be from the tachycardia, because the heart is not getting enough time to bring oxygen to the body due to the tachycardia.
