Suffering From Bleeding Disease. Suspected Ulcerative Colitis. What Are The Findings In The Report?
I am writing this mail for my mother.. (age 54, 58kg). She is suffering from bleeding disease for the past 23 yrs( Some doctors said it is "Ulcerative colitis"). Now she has severe bleeding (Hg only 7 ) and admitted in a super speciality hospital at Kerala, India. After colonoscopy Dr. advised surgery. Pls inform me, Is surgery an effective method or not? Is there any alternative solution? After surgery what are all the difficulties?
Hi thanks for your question. Ulcerative colitis is usually treated by medical means that is drugs. However when sever complications like multiple ulcers which don't heal by drugs, multiple polyps, perforation or malignant changes on biopsy. Surgery is done, to remove the severely involved portion of gut. Disease can reappear in the remaining portion of gut. If your Doctor has advised surgery, he is the right judge since he has evaluated the patient and he knows best regarding your patient. Hope this answers your question.
