Suffering From Cluster Headaches. Can We Press Cold Water Bottle Against Temple To Relieve Pain?
I m a candidate with cluster cycles every 18 to 24 months, the haunting experience been going on with me for at least 25 years now. I was on imetrix for a while until I had a heart surgery, now being told by my Doctor I can t use so much of it due to the risk factor concerning my heart. I m finding out now when an attacks come, I use a plastic bottle of cold water press against the temple of my head where the pain is intense, I come to find out that it eases the pain and relieves the headache , my question, is it safe?

During the acute episodes, the medicines that are helpful in patients with cluster headache are steroid, nasal oxygen, sumatriptan(not safe with heart problem) . During acute episodes yopu may try nasal sumatriptan after checking with your doctor regarding the safety issue in patients with heart problems.
The medicines that can help in chronic cluster headache are verapamil (you have to check with your doctor regarding the safety in patients with heart problem), topiramate, valproate etc.
You can press cold water bottle in your head if you want without any problem
I think you need to get re-evaluated by a headache specialist/neurologist regarding the appropriate selection of medicine that can help you
