Suffering From Congestive Heart Failure. Heart Not Responding To Treatment. Liver Gets Enlarged. Chances Of Survival?

Hi, My father in law is suffering from congestive heart failure and looks like he is in stage IV. Doctor tells that his heart is functioning @ 30% and is not responding to treatments. Because of this, his liver has got enlarged and his kidneys are getting affected. He seemed to be getting better couple of days back and now he has come back to the same shape as how he was 2 days back. Since i am in US and he is in India, wanted to know how long can he survive?

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

It is difficult to assess life expectancy – apart from ejection fraction, it depends valves’ integrity and function / wall of the chambers / arrhythmia, their nature and frequency / renal function / response to medicines and so on.. / Personal habits, family history, or co-morbidities also influence the outcome...There is still hope and heart transplantation is an option... The treating doctor alone can suggest based on his assessment of the situation. Further deterioration can be prevented or postponed by aggressive management.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
