Hi
A proper treatment requires a proper diagnosis - Your doctor could find and suggest as and when the results are ready
In the mean time, you can try cough suppressant, as it is 'nasty'! Dextromethorphan is generally available over the counter. Some may benefit from anti-histamine - like chlorpheneramine. BEWARE - all these can drowsiness - interfere with driving, machinery and so on.
Soothening throat lozenges may also help
They all will give some comfort and reduce the cough - they will not eliminate completely. Cure depends on diagnosis
Good luck
