Suffering From Paranoid Schizophrenia, Tendency Of Harassing Others Repeatedly. Treatment?
I have an older sister who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia , she is repeatedly harassing me online by repeatedly sending spam which usually contains lewd content, personal attacks, malware, the list is endless, she even makes up fake Twitter accounts in false namesso she can get malware into my email, I ve reported her to the authorities but they are taking their time to arrest her I would actually just like her to stop.
Hi and Welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your question...
Paranoid Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder, where the person loses touch with reality and can have false beliefs, called delusions. Unfortunately, these persons lack an understanding or insight into their llness and this can make them act in accordance with their false beliefs or their distorted sense of reality. Sometimes, such actions or behaviours can result in difficulty or harm to others.
Every country or state has relevant laws and mental health acts which have provisions for restraining by force, mentally ill persons who pose a threat or harm to others or the society. Since this is against the will of the person, such restraining orders or involuntary treatment requires approval by appropriate authorities, usually a magistrate's order.
So, in your situation, though it is quite distressing to you, the only solution would be appropriate action taken by the authorities. You can try ignoring such mails or use a strict spam filter to avoid reading them and getting more distressed.
Hello........
Thanks for your query. Schizophrenic patients generally lack insight i.e they do not acknowledge existence of a psychiatric illness. Hence, they stick to these false beliefs called as delusions. You can approach the relevant judicial authority for in patient admission and treatment for your sister. Till then it is better to avoid these spam mail as there is no need to be stressed.
