Hello and welcome to HCM.
Thank you for your query.
From your description it does seem like you have a
respiratory tract infection. The inflammation of the tonsils or
larynx can cause pain during swallowing, speaking, irritation while breathing, etc. If not for the
tylenol you would be experiencing a fever as well. Treatment involves antibiotic therapy specific for this condition (
azithromycin is most commonly used).
The production of sputum could be of concern, and could lead to a misdiagnosis by an inexperienced physician. A sputum analysis would greatly help in finding the best antibiotic to treat you.
Please discuss the possibility with your doctor, and accordingly seek medical treatment with the most appropriate antibiotic. A
bronchodilator or expectorant will also help in relieving you of your trouble in supine positions. Also drink sips of warm water which will help in expelling any sputum that is causing the difficulty while you lie down.
I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.
Best wishes.
