Suffering From Swollen Tonsils, Fever And Chills. Strep Test Negative And UTI Positive. Prescribed Levaquin, Ciprodex. Suggestion?

Hi there I m 17 female I went to dr earlier For swollen tonsils, swollen lymph nodes (both sides), fever/chills, ear infection , and chest cold. I was told I tested negative for mono and strep . However I did test positive for a UTI after I took a blood and urine test along with a swab on my tonsils. I was prescribed levaquin , ciprodex , and lidocaine. I feel extremely fatigue and woke up to heavy chest pains, shortness of breath, excessive mucus, and excruciating throat pain caused by my tonsils. I was not recommended any cough syrup is there anything else I should be taking or do. I also do not have health insurance so it is in my best interest to not visit another urgent care.

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi

Welcome to HealthcareMagic forum

You seem to be suffering from Acute sinusitis rather than tonsillitis alone. Apart from antibiotics you need to follow other home remedies such as:
1. Drink plenty of warm water – this helps in improving the blood circulation, keeping the mucosa moist and relief from pain
2. Anti-inflammatory medicines such as diclofenac or ibuprofen for the pain relief.
3. Use saline nasal spray followed by steam inhalation 3-4 times a day.
4. Also, avoid smoking/chilled food & beverages/alcohol/coffee till you recover.
5. If the symptoms do not improve within 3-4 days you can start on antibiotic (such as a combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid or cefuroxime) after consulting your doctor.
6. A mucolytic such as bromhexine or ambroxol will help in reducing the secretions.

I wish you good health

Regards
