Suffering With Tinnitus From Last 14 Years And Now From Depression

I am 30 years of age. I have been suffering from Tinnitus for the past 14 years. I have no hearing loss which revealed from several Audiometry/OAE tests. I could remember that before i got tinnitus, i felt ear block for a week, ear pain for 2 days followed by tinnitus which never ended. Prior to onset of tinnitus, i suffered from depression since 1 year. Can you please help me out ************************** Hi,Sridhar, It seems that you have got some infection in the ear,may be in middle ear ,some impacted wax in the ear or small perforation in the drum can cause tinitus. Some times chronic sinusitis give rise to infection in the ear, take nasal inhalation with warm water putting balm or vicks in it. Take ENT opinion and rule out above mentioned causes. ok and bye ***************************** Hi Dr, Since my child hood i use to have frequent cold attacks. Most of the times i feel ear block when ever i have cold. secondly before i got tinnitus, i felt a little block in my ears and used DEWAX solution in both my ears. This worsened the situation and ears blocked fully. This situation continued for a week followed by ear pain for 2 days followed by tinnitus. How ever i used ear buds after my ears blocked due to DEWAX usage. But i did not penetrate too deeper. Also i was told i had polips when i diagonised initially for tinnitus. After onset of my tinnitus, it was difficult for me to drain out fluid from my nose when ever i had cold as the fluid never use to come out freely. Is it a sign of sinusitis? Even i used to feel head ache when i ever i had cold. Can you please assess my situation and provide me a possible diagnosis and solution. Also can you please advice if an ear infection could continue for 14 years? ******************

Hi Sridhar, Welcome to HealthcareMagic Forum.
Your symptoms suggest you have Tinnitus as well as Chronic Rhinosinusitis. There are various causes for Tinnitus, like Exposure to loud noise, Earwax blockage, Ear bone changes (otosclerosis), Stress and depression, Acoustic neuroma. This noncancerous (benign) tumor develops on the cranial nerve that runs from your brain to your inner ear and controls balance and hearing and few medications. All these causative factors have to be rule out and the treatment depends upon the cause. Get a second opinion form a ENT Specialist. In addition to this, certain lifestyle changes can make the symptoms less bothersome. Reduce your exposure to things that may make your tinnitus worse. Common examples include loud noises and smoking. Avoid stress and practice relaxation techniques like Yoga and Meditation. If you drink Alcohol, QUIT, as it increases the force of your blood by dilating your blood vessels, causing greater blood flow, especially in the inner ear area. For Sinusitis, you will require antibiotics. Get adequate rest, take steam inhalations and apply warm compresses to your painful areas of face, rinse your nasal passages regularly and sleep with your headend elevated.

Wish you Good Health, Take Care.
