Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I seem to have high anxiety issues. I used to take zoloft and Lexapro, but decided a year or so ago to wean myself off and try exercise and eating better. Although I function well most of the time, I can get angered easily and fly off the handle. I m in my late 50 s and I m having trouble controlling my emotions. Should i get back on medication? I get very anxious at work, I m a stylist and feel constant pressure to perform well.
You have issues related to anxiety and were taking Sertraline and Escitalopram. The drugs resulted in improvement and later you weaned off the drugs. Now you are stable but have symptoms like easy irritability, trouble in controlling emotions, anxiousness etc. If these symptoms are not causing impairment to your functioning then as per my opinion no need to go back to medicines. Still to rule out relapse of anxiety I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist.
For such symptoms psychological treatment like Behaviour Therapy with relaxation exercises can help you in reducing such symptoms. Breathing exercises, Progressive Muscle Relaxation Exercises help to reduce anxiety and result in improvement of symptoms. These methods can be used to control anxiety in during episodes will help you. Even after relaxation exercises symptoms persist visit a psychiatrist for evaluation and treatment.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
