Suggest A Remedy For Chronic Constipation Due To Intake Of Oxycodone

I am a 78 year old male. I take oxycondone for chronic pain which causes chronic constipation. I have been using Fleet enimas about every 4 days for a long time. I have heard that too many enimas is detrimental, especially someone of my age. Is this a legitimate concern?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic constipation due to intake of Oxycodone which can occur due to sudden change in metabolism. There are many reasons along with this as well such as sudden change in dietary habits, sedentary lifestyle that is lack of physical activity, hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome, lack of fiber in diet, low water intake, and weakening of muscles and nerves of digestive system and it is extremely important to find out the exact cause. Need not to worry. I would advise you to consult a gastroenterologist once and get examination done like complete blood count, stool examination, ultrasound scan of abdomen, colonoscopy. You should start treatment after complete examination. Doctor may prescribe you traditional drugs like lactulose, milk of magnesia and cremaffin or bisacodyl tablets. Drink one spoon of honey in warm water daily. You can take a high fiber diet that will increase the bulk of stool.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
