Suggest A Remedy For Chronic Sciatica Pain In Leg, Shoulders And Hands

I am a 62 year old female with an on going chronic sciatica problem (arthritis in the spine, spondulosis) but recently the pain is all down my left leg and, after standing for any amount of time (I am a part time hairdresser) the pain stays in my left ankle for hours. Also, for several months now, my left shoulder, arm, wrist and fingers have pain almost constantly to the point it is interfering with my sleep, my work and my hobbies.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have chronic sciatica pain in leg, shoulders and hands . Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg . Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve becomes pinched, usually by a herniated disk in your spine or by an overgrowth of bone on your vertebrae . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order X-ray , MRI , CT scan and electromyography . Doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatories , muscle relaxant , tricyclic antidepressants and anti-seizure medications . Doctor may also recommend physical therapy along with steroid injection and surgery . For now apply warm compresses on leg , shoulder and hands and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . Gentle massage with flax seed oil will also be helpful.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
