Suggest A Suitable Birth Control Pill While Sexually Active

Hi! I am looking at reviews for different forms of birth control, a brand name called Estrostep, and comparing it to its generic counterparts. While reading reviews, people seem to praise the actual brand, but then complain about its generic twin. I am confused as to why people seem to have such different results with pills that are supposedly the same? I want to have the best option, but generic is just so much more affordable.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
There are different types of birth control pills available.
Broadly, there are two main kinds of birth control pills:
1. combination birth control pills (combined pills), which contain estrogen and progestin, and
2. minipill, which contains only progestin.
Combination pills prevents pregnancy by suppressing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus and thin the lining of the uterus (endometrium) to keep sperm from joining the egg.
The minipill thickens cervical mucus and thins the endometrium, thus preventing sperm from reaching the egg.
You may experience few side effects with both the pills.
Since combined pill has added advantage, generally it is recommended and used more than the other type.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
