There are different types of birth control pills available.
Broadly, there are two main kinds of birth control pills:
1. combination birth control pills (combined pills), which contain
estrogen and progestin, and
2. minipill, which contains only progestin.
Combination pills prevents
pregnancy by suppressing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus and thin the lining of the
uterus (endometrium) to keep sperm from joining the egg.
The minipill thickens cervical mucus and thins the endometrium, thus preventing sperm from reaching the egg.
You may experience few side effects with both the pills.
Since combined pill has added advantage, generally it is recommended and used more than the other type.
