Suggest A Treatment For Fractured T4 And T5?

My brother in law has fractured T4 and T5 plus clean break of his sternum and a rib.He was travelling at approx. 30 mph when he crashed.I am an emergency nurse so understand medical issues but what are the implications of his injuries ? They say they may have to fix sternum in order that a brace may be worn.
