Suggest Alternate Medicine For Paroxtine Which Does Not Cause Weight Gain
I just found out that the depression pill I have been taking is making me gain weight,,,which makes me even more depressed,,,,what depression pill does not make uou gain weight ..the pill I m on now is Paroxtine, And what diet pill can I take to help me lose this added weight Thank you Linda
I understand that you are worried about the side effect of weight gain due to the antidepressant Paroxetine. Unfortunately, among the SSRIs, Paroxetine has the the highest chance of causing weight gain.
Now, there are certain anti-depressants that are "weight-neutral" or in other words, don't cause weight gain. The antidepressants with least likelihood of causing weight gain are Bupropion and Venlafaxine. Among the SSRI group, Sertraline is supposed to have the least predisposition for weight gain.
Regarding taking wieght loss medication / diet pills, this is not a recommended option unless you are morbidly obese. The reason is because these pills can have unwanted side effects, interactions and long term complications. A combination of diet control and regular physical exercise is the best option.
Paroxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and the drug is known to cause sedation and weight gain as side effects. Out of all SSRIs paroxetine is most common drug to cause weight gain. Other drugs like Fluoxetine, Escitalopram and Citalopram are relatively safe and cause less weight gain if we compare them with Paroxetine. Bupropion is also one anti-depressant drug that is not implicated in causing weight gain. You can consult your psychiatrist for these drugs.
Other drugs like Topiramate can be used in your case. Topiramate is a mood stabiliser that is known to cause weight loss if used in depression patients. Don't rely on over advertised weight loss pills as they cause significant harm.
Consult your psychiatrist for details.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
