Suggest Alternate Treatment For Anxiety Other Than Lexapro

Hi, I have a question about my boyfriend. We are a gay couple and have been together for 2 years. He is 34 and i am 24.He has been taking lexapro for the past 8 years now due to severe anxiety. He raves about this drug and credits it for his success and has even gone as far to say how if it werent for lexapro, he would have killed himself. I understand that anxiety exists. The issues we are having range from his low sex drive, his inability to express emotions and even not show any signs of caring about mine. He can be cold and distant and has even been unfaithful through texts, emails and online dating websites. I have agreed to stay with him through all of this. What concerns me is the following: a) Yes lexapro may help with anxiety but what kind of life is it if he will continually experience those other symptoms. b) My research indicates that there is little to no studies on the overuse of lexapro. c) I am worried he is blaming his bad habits on lexapro. d) Most of his family members both related and in-law have taken or take anti depressants or anxiety. I feel they believe there is a pill thats going to solve all their problems. My partner especially. e)He has been to the doctor but i cant help but question this drug. Surely there are alterior methods in dealing with severe anxiety that arent a quick fix such as taking a pill. There must be ways to manage this without mind altering drugs. He has gone to the doctor to ask about this but has not been advised to wean off this drug. He has another appointment monday week to discuss a mental health plan. Please help! Any advice you have would be great.

Dear

We understand your concerns

I went through your details. Anxiety disorder needs expert psychiatric treatment for management as well as cure. Self medication can also be fatal. Your boy friend should be having this medications for some time now. If there is no change in his condition, a change in treatment plan could be warranting. His psychiatrist should decide on that.

Secondly, psychotherapy, meditation and exercise has good effect on anxiety disorder. consult a psychologist for further advise.
