Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Best treatment of asthma is inhaled treatment. Prednisone is an oral corticosteroid. Prednisone tablet is not advisable for children. So in my opinion, you should take him to pulmonologist. He will mostly improve with inhaled bronchodilators (Formoterol or Salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) (Budesonide or Fluticasone). ICS are much safer and more effective than Prednisone. Don't worry, he will be alright with inhaled treatment.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your grandson. Thanks.
