Suggest An Alternative Medication For Ferrous Sulphate To Reduce Iron Deficiency

I had gastric bypass 2 years ago. I am constipated all the time. I was prescribed ferrous suffate, which adds to my constipation. I take colace Stool softener which seems to help. Is there something else I can take besides ferrous suffate for my iron deficiency that is not so harsh.

Hi,

What is your hemoglobin level? Then we can decide other meds if needed then can be given. You should avoid tea and coffee and may take vitamin C (500 units) with the iron pill once daily. Other salts are ferric citrate or gluconate or you may tablets alternative day and foods rich in iron helps too.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
