Suggest An Alternative Of Lyrica

Hello, my mom is currently taking metformin for diabetes but she also has severe nerve foot pain. Lyrica, which is used to ease foot pain, cannot be taken with metformin. Can you recommend any other medications that she should explore? Thank you. I can be reached at YYYY@YYYY .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

She can take antidepressants like Amitriptyline or Imipramine which may provide relief for mild to moderate symptoms. They can cause a number of side effects, such as dry mouth, sweating, weight gain, constipation, and dizziness.

Other antidepressants such as Duloxetine can relieve pain with fewer side effects such as nausea, sleepiness, dizziness, decreased appetite, and constipation.

These are prescription based medications to be advised by her doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
