Suggest An Alternative Treatment For Joint Pain In Hips, Shoulders, Elbows And Knees

I have battled joint pain in hips, back, shoulders, knees, elbows.........now I have carpel tunnel (diagnosed by dr) after an hour bike ride with my kids. I have been seeing a rhumetologists for 6 months and he thinks I may have ankalosy spondalytis. All drugs he has persrcribed do very little.....diclofinac, Celebrex and now meloxicam. Pain is severe at night after laying down for an hour or sitting for more than five minutes. Went to urgent care yesterday due to severe knee pain. He gave me a shot of steroids and I feel fantastic. what now???

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history about chronic pains in joints, back, now diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, seeing a Rheumatologist saying ankylosing spondilitis, not much relief, went to ER, steroids helped, wants to know what else to do or to do next.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
It seems that your Rheumatologist is treating very conservatively hence you need a second opinion of another Rheumatologist or Doctor to go for aggressive treatment so that you can have better relief.
Oral steroids in tapering doses can help you a lot.
Also important is to go fro detailed tests of blood for Rheumatoid arthritis, gout, autoimmune diseases, Thyroid profile and so on to get any other causative factors and get them treated well.
Avoid stress and anxiety as these cause increase in pains.
Take a help of a Physiotherapist, helps a lot.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
