The dentist prescribe me amoxyllin 500 mg 3 every 8 hours. I ask second opinion from my GP & he prescribed me Augmentin cause he reckon it's better then amoxyllin in my condition. Is he's right? Hi dear ,

As per your query you have gum infection and you are taking augmentin along with medicine for high blood pressure , uric acid and tamoxifen . As such agumentin not known to cause any interference with above medicines , but as it is a prescribed medicine , you should also discuss it with doctor who prescribed you Tamoxifen, Allopurinol and Karvea . Also consult dentsist again for proper examination . doctor may perform oral prophylaxis ( scaling and curetage ) or root canal and prescribe stronger antibiotics . Do not forget to tell your dentist about other medicine your are taking . For now do war saline rinses several times a day and maintain proper oral hygiene .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
