Suggest Beta Blocker For The Management Of Erythema

I have used beta blockers (metoprolol and propranolol) very successfully for the management of facial flushing associated with rosacea; however, I experienced side effects from both (metoprolol caused short-term memory loss and propranolol caused hair loss and joint pain). I would like to try another beta blocker for the management of erythema but I don t know which one to request and my GP is unsure what to give me. Any thoughts?

Hello,

The following drugs are used to reduce facial erythema in rosacea:
1) A topical gel form of alpha 2 agonist brimonidine. 0.33% topical gel to be applied on face once daily.
2) A topical form of alpha agonist oxymetazoline 1% cream. Use a pea-sized amount of cream in a thin layer to cover the entire face (forehead, nose, each cheek, and chin), avoiding the eyes and lips. Wash hands immediately after application
3) Beta blockers
4) Clonidine
5) Naloxone
6) Ondansetron 4-8mg twice daily orally for 3 weeks.
7) SSRIs
Thus you can discuss the above mentioned medications with your doctor and have a prescription.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
