Suggest Cause And Remedy For Irregular Periods

i have had very irregular periods for 3 years now since i had a miscarriage in september 2008. i may only get one over a 3 month period. when i do get one they are extremely heavy and painful. its odd as my mother has been as regular as clock work since she is 17..she is now 47. i was the same untill my miscarriage. this is a very frustrating situation for me and i hope you can help, im worried their is something really wrong.
