Suggest Cause For Irregular Heat Palpitations

I ve had a feeling of heart palpitations in my chest for over 6 months now, it feels like an occasional flip flop feeling or that my heart wants to jump out of my chest. I notice they occur mostly by mid day and later in the afternoon. They don t occur constantly. Just once in a while. What could be the causes? I was told possible anxiety or stress?

Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I carefully read your concern.

Every stressful situation, due to sudden increase of adrenalin amounts in your system, can cause tachycardia and various arrhythmias or extrasystoles (skipped heart beats). The feeling you are describing is more like an extrasystole or a patched group or burst of them. However, I would recommend you to be put on a 24-hour Holter rhythm monitor registration or an episode rhythm monitor, which allows you to switch it on and off whenever you experience your symptoms, the episode will be registered and then reviewed at your doctor. Either way, at this moment, it is crucial to find what is this that you are feeling, and start treatment, if necessary, as soon as possible.

As for the anxiety, you can discuss with your general practitioner to be put on a 10-14 day course with a drug from the class of benzodiazepines.

I hope I was helpful with my answer. Best regards.
