hi. i just had a very very small dose of kenalog injected by an very high skilled surgeon ( came highly recommended ) in a puffy section of my upper lip that never came down from a radiesse injection years ago... i only had it done a few hours ago but recently i ve read all this bad stuff about kenalog and how it can permanently change the color of your skin and i ve noticed that in the area he injected that its much lighter as of now.... do i need to worry that this lightening is permanent?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Though injectable steroids may cause depigmentation but this side effect is delayed i.e takes a few days or weeks to develop. Moreover not everyone will develop this side effect. Certainly not in experienced hands. It is seen only in those few cases with too superficial injection or injection of high concentration of Triamcinolone. Even if that happens, it usually resolves. The lightening of the skin that you notice in that area just a few hours after injection is most likely due to vasoconstriction as steroids are vasoconstrictive.
Hope I have answered your query.
