possible chipped bone in knuckle of thumb?
I was cutting duct tape for my daughter, the scissors got stuck and I tugged hard. Didn't anticipate the fast hard motion back down. Blade sunk into the top of my thumb knuckle, right on the lower crease, horizontal. Truly if felt like a hard whack, like I bruised it badly. The blade hit and bounced back. The "hit is what hurt, didn't even feel like I cut it. But... Became distracted by the sudden bleeding. Focus changed to handling that.
Cleaned cut, pressure for 5 min stopped bleeding and I taped it straight so it could heal (if I bent it it would bleed). Neosporan... Cut healed much faster than I thought.
Suspected blade went through and hit bone. Seemed to bounce off in a way. Initially skin on top and below cut swelled a bit purple. I used ice.
Weeks later the cut is still completely healed, but sore to touch. Believe there is a slight bulge. Discomfort (feels tight) bending. Doesn't bend as far. Top of knuckle feels more pointed, other thumb knuckle feels flat. Is it possible I chipped the bone w my scissors blade? If so, safe to leave it be? My deductible is so high, really not looking to pay for a doc visit and an X-ray. That is why I didn't seek stitches in the first place.
