Suggest Cure For Pain Radiating From Left Buttock Towards The Knee

I strained my lower back 2 weeks ago. I picked up only a light piece of plywood weighing only about 10 lbs. but I also turned a little and shortly thereafter I felt intense pain in my lower back and legs to the point I could barely walk and/or stand. I took 2 Aleve pills over 2 days and the majority of the pain has left but I still have a nagging intermittent pain radiating from my left buttock down past my knee. What can I do to get rid of it?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain radiating from left buttock towards the knee . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like , but in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are due to nerve injury , Sciatica , which may occur due to your disc bulged problem , arthritis or gout . I would suggest you to continue exercises , apply hot compresses on back and take proper rest . Consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order x-ray , CT scan and MRI . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant , anti inflammatory , methotrexate , allopurinol and recommend particular type of stretching exercise , keep your leg elevated while lying down or physical therapy . Doctor may also recommend surgery or may refer you to neurologist for nerve problem.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
