Suggest Diet And Supplements To Be Taken During Pregnancy

My wife has an irregular period sometimes to the tune of 50~70 days. We consulted a gyno and she prescribed Ovacet and the next cycle, my wife got pregnant. She is 5~6 weeks into pregnancy. Now when we went for ultrasound, there has been no trace of heartbeat as of now. We are told to wait for another couple of weeks. She has started taking Orofer-XT. Is there any other medicine she needs to take and also what shall be the food intake?

Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Saddiq ul Abidin. I have read you question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

Congratulations, your doctor successfully regulated your wife's menstrual cycle and let her conceive. Now you guys need to wait for the baby's cardiac (heart)activity which can be observed till 6th week of pregnancy. So as rightly said by your attending doctor I would also suggest you people to wait for another 1 week.
As prescribed by your doctor the folic acid and iron supplements are of vital importance during early pregnancy. Iron is required to build up good haemoglobin and folic acid is of sole importance for the brain and nervous system development of your child. So don't miss them at all.
As far as the nutritional requirement is considered pregnancy is a condition in which you have to feed two lives so definitly food requirement is increased. According to data, woman has to take extra 300calories to make up for the requirements of the baby and herself. Diet should be balanced but mainly containing Proteins (meat, egg, green leafy vegetables) and calcium (milk). However, she should take all the fresh fruits and vegetables to get as much nutrients as required. Eat good and have a healthy baby !
