Hi,
I have read your question and I understand your concern.
I see a lot of patients coming nowadays to my clinic complaining about
acid reflux. I usually recommend them to:
1. Find what triggers your
heartburn, and stop eating/drinking that specific food/drink. For most of them it's: Coffee or tea (both regular and decaffeinated), anything that’s fizzy or has caffeine in it, alcohol, citrus fruits, such as oranges and lemons, tomatoes and products that contain tomatoes, such as tomato sauce and salsa, chocolate*, mint or peppermint, fatty or spicy foods, such as chili or curry, onions and garlic, and obviously smoke.
2. Meals. It is better in your condition to eat less and more often. This will give time to your stomach to process the little amount of food. Switch to low-fat,
high protein food. Stop eating before you get too full. Eat slowly and always chew your food in small parts.
3. Sleep. Be sure to have finished your meal 3-4 hours before lying in bed. Put an extra pillow or put some blocks under the legs at the head of your bed to raise it at least 4 to 6 inches. This will help your stomach to keep it's content down.
4. Try to stay fit and lose some pounds if you are
overweight, but do not practice weightlifting or other exercises that put pressure on your abdomen. Also avoid tight clothes and tight belts.
5. Take your medication regularly.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Wish you good health.
