General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Let me explain few things about cholesterol .
Alone fruits or vegetables can't control the cholesterol or can't increase the cholesterol level in body .
There are so many reasons responsible for increase in cholesterol level as:
1 Tension , anxiety or stress .
2 Sedentary life style .
3 Greasy or fried food or spicy foods.
So avoidance is important to maintain the level.
When such patient visit I advise them to take :
1 High fiber diet , green leafy vegetables, fruits ( excess of everything is bad , even it is healthy diet).
2 Cut down the processed food, white bread, doughnuts, white sugar, pizza, burger should be avoided completely .
3 A 40 minute physical activity is important at this age group ( 62 yrs) like morning or evening walk , swimming .
So these measures and life style change may be good for your cholesterol level.
Good luck.
