Suggest Diet To Be Followed While Having Gastrointestinal Issues Post Food Intake

what should I be eating after a gastrointestinal incident caused, I believe, by too much fiber in one meal. I developed stomach pain which caused chills, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. after hours of discomfort and bloating. Two days later, I m hungry, still have soreness in the abdomen and am sort of weak. I did, however just swim a half mile. I m 77. I have been drinking bullion, had a peeled apple and strangely feel like popcorn which I have had for 2 days. I m baking a reg. potato and a sweet potato. I ve been trying to eat vegan but wonder about whether I should go easy on raw veg. in salads. I ve been avoiding breads but wonder if I should have them for now.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the diarrhea and vomiting are in relation with the intestine infection through some sort of bacteria most likely. Following are the dietary measures to be followed for better recovery:
- Drink plenty of liquids including boiled water, lemon juice, coconut water, butter milk
- Prefer organic fresh fruits as apples, pomegranate, oranges, custard apple
- Easily digestible food stuffs as mung, dal, rice is preferred over wheat
- Fresh yogurt helps replenish the altered GI flora
- Avoid all spices, non veg, junk foods, dairy fat
- Bread should also be avoided as that may flare up the GI flora upset

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
