Suggest Diet To Be Followed While Having Hypothyroidism

I have hypothyroidism. Is there any foods that I should avoid. I have heard peanut butter is not good and apparently cruciferous vegetables. I need to lose weight as I ski & hike - so I am carrying to much weight on my 5 foot 2 inch frame. (199 lbs.) Big bones, highly muscled, but too much fat. What can I avoid to help lose weight. I do not eat desserts, nor sugar. I love fruits & veggies and make all my own food from fresh ingredients. I limit bread to one slice, but eat barley. Any suggestions. I want to ski hard this season at Whistler, but worry the weight will do joint damage. Thank you for your time.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
There is no specific diet for hypothyroid patients.
Hypothyroidism is accompanied by increase in weight so appropriate medication needs to be taken to correct the deranged thyroid functions.
I suggest you to get the thyroid function tests to assess the thyroid functions.
The thyroid function tests should be within range.
In case the thyroid functions are deranged, appropriate drug dose needs to be taken.
Besides, for weight loss you need to work out and take low fat high fiber diet.
Weight loss is a long process and will not happen over night.
I suggest you to consult a nutritionist and to trainer to start with work outs and a desired diet plan.

Thanks and take care
