Suggest Dosage For Colic Aid For Babies

Hello Doctor, Good Evening.. I just want to check with you regarding one of the syrup for my baby born at 32.4 weeks and now 36 weeks with weight of 2 kgs.. We are feeding him with formula milk as mother s milk is not sufficient. In sleep very frequently he is stretching both his hands feeling very dis comfort. One of my doctor suggested Colic Aid. But I just want to confirm whether we can use those for my baby or not. If we can use...what is the dose. Please clarify.

Hi,

It is quite common for babies to have occasional stretching and arching. This is thought to be from discomfort caused by air passing through bowel loops. If baby is feeding well, able to sleep uninterrupted, and gaining weight as expected, this can be considered normal and neglected.

Colicaid is used to relieve flatulence and dyspepsia in such babies with significant discomfort and excessive crying, although most of the times it is not indicated. You can give this drops 0.5 ml 2 for 3 days to see the response. It is not good to give frequently or for prolonged periods.

Meanwhile, few things can be done to decrease this. Always feed baby in sitting position. Do burping for 10-15 minutes after each feeds, and avoid sleeping immediately after feeds. Trying to switch back to exclusive breast feeding also will offer help.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
